Vision for the Future
Over the years, ASHI continued to promote the home inspection profession. This began by focusing on the two foundational aspects of ASHI: the Standard of Practice and the ASHI Community. The Standard of Practice is continually refined and expanded upon in order to always remain relevant in the real estate market. Because of this, the Standard has become distinguished as the most widely accepted document pertaining to home inspection. Many governmental bodies have adopted the Standard when examining the profession and prosing legislation relating to home inspection. Similarly, the ASHI Community has evolved into offering a wide variety of channels for members to connect. ASHI has built a tradition of gathering the ASHI Community through conferences, specifically by hosting the national conference Inspection World every year. Additionally, ASHI's Chapters have grown to 63 chapters across the country, facilitating local communities and providing educational resources. Beyond that, there are countless other ways for members frequently share on discussion forums and social media groups.
Aside from focusing on internal affairs, there are two other important areas outside of the association itself in which ASHI continues to make strides in: Membership Advancement and Consumer Protection. ASHI members are the heart and soul of the association; without a strong member base, there is no ASHI. ASHI strives to provide its members with access to resources that will allow them to improve their technical proficiency, distinguish themselves through accreditation, and employ their skills to revenue streams beyond home inspections. Membership Advancement is an ongoing initiative and is made possible by the ASHI Government Affairs (AGA) division, which lobbies on Capitol Hill. The AGA campaigns on behalf of all home inspectors to elect representatives who understand the vital role that home inspectors play in the real estate market. Not only does this backing support home inspectors across the nation, but also is vitally important in creating legislation that protects consumers during the home buying process. Ultimately, the goal for the Membership Advancement and Consumer Protection ventures is singular: ASHI is to help its members do what they do best — provide sound home inspections to families, making sure they have a safe and reliable place to call home.
